PRESS REVIEW 1996-1997
THE WASHINGTON POST
July 22, 1996
"The art itself, assambled by Molly Ruppert
of Turpentine Productions, is lively but
only occasionally lives up to its ostentibly theatrical theme.
The whimsical wooden figures of Ferdinand Dyba and the
elegant costume designs of Daniela Codarcea Kamiliotis
fit best in this merger of the dramatic and the visual.
And Klara Tamas's accomplished pencil drawings,
while referingonly tangentially to the stage, are quite moving."

"BETWEEN VIRTUAL AND REAL"
VIRTUAL SYMBOL GALLERY'S REAL TIME EXHIBITION IN "OAK RIDGE"
FEBRUARY 27 - MARCH 12, 1997
"Founder an Webmaster of the Symbol Gallery, Klara Tamas has brought
her extraordinary enthusiasm and expertise to the presentation of artists
of Eastern European heritage. Four of the artists whose work is displayed
in the current exhibition at the Queens Council on the Arts explore figurative
and narrative traditions, which comprise a focus for Symbol Gallery's stable:
Laila Farcas-Ionesco, Daniela Codarcea Kamiliotis, Kathryn Myers (American
artist), and Klara Tamas.
.................
The Symbol Gallery's Website makes it possible for the works of these,
among other artists of Romanian heritage, to be seen in digital form via
the Internet by millions of on-line viewers. Despite the potential for disseminating
images of works of art to unlimited audiences with today's sophisticated
telecommunications, many artists and art historicans express their concern
that electronic transmission will supersede actual experience of visits
to galleries and museums. The video screen -like the proverbial the slide
projection- is not an adequate substitute for the human eye's ability to
distinguish the subtile combinations of color and media which elicits that
unique effect upon the viewer's perceptions and emotions. The works on view
at the Queens Council on the Arts are a perfect example of this simple truth."
